ST. MARY’S MISSION AT 75 YEARS-DAY 2

St. Mary’s Mission in Lufwanyama marked its 75th Diamond Jubilee with a spirited two-day celebration on October 26-27, 2024, attended by parishioners, former priests, and community leaders. On the second day, the event began with a vibrant Mass celebrated by Very Rev. Fr. Lewis Mutachila, the Vicar General of Ndola Archdiocese, who stood in for Archbishop Dr. Benjamin Phiri, unable to attend due to international commitments. Very. Rev. Fr. Mutachila was warmly welcomed by the parish priest, Rev. Fr. Augustine Mwansa Mumba, along with assistant priests Rev. Fr. Charles Jjumba and Rev. Fr. Wisdom Musonda. During his homily, Very. Rev. Fr. Mutachila delivered a powerful and thought-provoking message centered on self-sustainability, urging congregants to remain committed to God’s work despite life’s challenges. Drawing from the biblical story of blind Bartimaeus who regained his sight through faith, he encouraged the faithful to use their talents to serve God and uplift their community. The Mass was filled with spirited singing from the choir, setting a celebratory tone for the day. The Vicar General also administer the sacrament of confirmation and holy communion to successful candidates. At the end of mass awards or recognition were given to deserving couples and individual for their contribution to the mission. Following Mass, a luncheon was held, offering time for fellowship and celebration. The afternoon saw lively entertainment, including singing, dancing, and performances, bringing together generations of parishioners in joy and gratitude. In attendance were former parish priests, Rev. Fr. Martin Bwalya and Rev. Fr. Chrispin Mukena, who traveled from Chingola and Ndola to celebrate this milestone. Traditional and political leaders also graced the occasion, honoring St. Mary’s Mission’s 75 years of service and faithfulness to the Lufwanyama community.
