Palm Sunday 2024
Palm Sunday, a significant day in the Christian calendar, was celebrated with fervor and devotion at St. Joseph of Cupertino Parish in Chifubu, led by Rt. Rev. Dr. Benjamin Phiri JCD.
Upon arrival, the Bishop was warmly welcomed by Parish Priest -Fr. Linus Mulenga and Liturgical Manager- Fr. Francis Mulenga. The day commenced with a vibrant procession from a nearby football ground, where the lay-faithful gathered in large numbers, waving palms amidst songs and drums.
Symbolizing the triumphant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem, Palm Sunday holds profound significance in the Christian faith. It marks the beginning of Holy Week, leading up to Easter Sunday, commemorating Christ’s passion, death, and resurrection.
During his homily, Bishop Phiri urged the congregation to approach Lent with sincerity and devotion. He emphasized that Holy Week presents a final opportunity for genuine repentance before the celebration of Easter.
Reminding the faithful of life’s uncertainty, he cautioned against procrastination in matters of salvation. “The time is now,” he declared, warning that tomorrow is never guaranteed, urging all to seize the present moment for spiritual transformation.
His words echoed a timeless truth: salvation is not a distant promise but a present reality. Urging the faithful to embrace repentance without delay, Bishop Phiri’s message resonated deeply, stirring hearts to reflection and action.
As the palms were waved in adoration and the faithful embarked on this sacred journey through Holy Week, Bishop Phiri’s message served as a guiding light, illuminating the path towards spiritual renewal and a deeper connection with the divine.
