Bishop’s Homily on the Memorial of Sts. Timothy and Titus

Today we celebrate the memorial of Sts. Timothy and Titus, disciples and co-workers of St. Paul. Timothy and Titus were young men of great zeal in the apostolate, young men of deep communion in Christ and warm in personal friendship with Paul and above all passionate in spreading the Gospel.

At a tender age, the two were entrusted with the newly founded churches not on account of their abilities but on account of their faith. As Paul writes on some of the qualities of a Bishop that: “He must have a firm grasp of the unchanging message of the tradition, so that he can be counted on both for giving encouragement in sound doctrine and for refuting those who argue against it”(Tit. 1:9).
