The De Jong Trust was initiated in 2014 by Bishop of the Ndola Diocese Dr. Alick Banda.

The Trust is named after the late Bishop Dennis de Jong, who was so passionate to help the vulnerable.

It was formed for the purpose of under taking projects in the Ndola Diocese which benefit the vulnerable.

Initially three Christians were appointed as Trustees to run the affairs of the Trust and currently there are four Trustees.

The first project for the De Jong Trust was the adoption of the Ndola Teaching Hospital Maternity A&B wards, the Post Natal wards and associated infrastructure.

A Quantity Surveyor was used to assess the amount of money required to get the wards to acceptable standard. The quantity Surveyor estimated that about K1.5 million will be required. This is an enormous task considering that sources of funds is from well-wishers (Companies and individuals). So far the major sponsors have been Madison Insurance and Toyota Zambia. Works done from funds organized are as follows:

• Painting of the adopted wards and associated infrastructure
• Donation of 100 bedcovers and 100 pairs of bedsheets and pillow cases.
• Annual provision of Christmas luncheon to patients, Christmas gifts for babies and decorations of the adopted wards.

Since inception, about K150, 000 has been spent on the above activities. The next stage of work will be rehabilitation of the three ablution blocks associated with the adopted wards.
