Thanksgiving Mass at the Cathedral of Christ the King.
On 17th November 2024, the Cathedral Community organized a joyful Thanksgiving Mass to celebrate the elevation of the Diocese of Ndola to an Archdiocese and the appointment of Most Rev. Dr. Benjamin Phiri JCD as its first Archbishop. The Cathedral community also Known as the “Archbishop’s Parish,” gathered in gratitude to God for this historic milestone.
Presiding over the Mass, Archbishop Phiri delivered a heartfelt homily emphasizing the immense responsibility that accompanies the Archdiocese’s elevation. He urged the congregation to repent, embrace true conversion, and lead holy lives. Addressing parents, he encouraged them to raise their children in faith, while advising children to respect and learn from their elders. The Archbishop called on the faithful to deepen their commitment to God, work diligently, and strive to live lives worthy of His blessings.
In a memorable and emotional moment, Archbishop Phiri introduced his mother, who had traveled from Chipata to attend the Mass. Her presence was especially significant, as she had been unable to attend the Archdiocese-wide Thanksgiving Mass on August 31, 2024. The congregation joyfully presented gifts to the Archbishop as he honored his mother before them, encouraging young people to cherish and care for their parents. Also in attendance were the Archbishop’s sister, nephew and a relative, adding to the family’s heartfelt participation in the celebration.
The day concluded with vibrant singing and jubilation, marking a milestone filled with gratitude, unity, and faith for the entire Archdiocese. Once again, congratulations to the Archbishop Dr. Benjamin Phiri JCD for being appointed the First Archbishop of Ndola and the elevation of the once Diocese of Ndola to an Archdiocese.
