On the 31st of August, 2024, Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola was filled with a spirit of joy and thanksgiving as thousands gathered to witness the historic Thanksgiving Mass and Investiture with the Pallium for Archbishop Dr. Benjamin Phiri. The Apostolic Nuncio to Zambia and Malawi, Archbishop Gian Luca Perici, vested Archbishop Phiri with the Pallium, a sacred symbol of his role as a shepherd in communion with the Pope.

This solemn act was a moment of deep significance, marking a new chapter for the Archdiocese of Ndola. The event drew clergy and bishops from all corners of Zambia, as well as a large number of the laity, who gathered to express their gratitude and to celebrate under the theme “Thanking God for the Creation of the Archdiocese of Ndola.” The presence of the Republican Vice President, Mrs. WK Mutale Nalumango, who served as the Guest of Honor and was acting as President, underscored the importance of the occasion for both the Church and the nation.

In his homily, Archbishop Phiri, the main celebrant, delivered a message that resonated deeply with all present. He spoke on the virtue of humility, emphasizing that no matter one’s position, humility is essential. He encouraged the congregation to use their God-given talents in service to the community, reminding them that every elevation in status is a call to greater responsibility. He urged both individuals and the Archdiocese to work even harder, building on the foundation of faith and commitment that has been laid.

The Holy Cross Parish Choir from Kabushi led the congregation in song, their voices echoing through the stadium and lifting the hearts of all in attendance. Their performance was so captivating that they received an invitation from Honorable Copperbelt Minister Elisha Mutambo to sing at the Independence Day celebrations in Lusaka, with free transport provided. The Thanksgiving Mass was not just a religious ceremony but a time for the new Archdiocese of Ndola to Thank God for all the graces received. Below are a few highlights.
