NEW YEAR DAY MASS
On January 1, 2025, Archbishop Dr. Benjamin Phiri, JCD, presided over the celebration of the Solemnity of Mary, the Mother of God, at the Cathedral of Christ the King in Ndola. This feast, marking the beginning of the New Year, brought the faithful together to honor Mary’s pivotal role in the Church. In his homily, Archbishop Phiri explained the significance of the Church’s recognition of Mary as the Mother of God. He provided a brief history of the council that affirmed this dogma, highlighting its importance in understanding Mary’s role in salvation history. The Archbishop emphasized Mary’s vital place in the life of the Church, encouraging the faithful to embrace her maternal guidance. He spoke on the importance of reciting the rosary, particularly during challenging times, as a way of seeking her intercession and drawing strength from her unwavering faith. He also urged the congregation to focus on building a personal relationship with God. This relationship, he said, requires deliberate effort and time, and Mary’s example and maternal care can serve as a guide for this spiritual journey. The celebration provided an uplifting start to the New Year, inspiring the faithful to grow in faith and devotion under Mary’s loving protection.
