Fundraising Luncheon at St. Anthony Parish, Garneton Kitwe.

On June 8, 2024, St. Anthony of Padua Parish in Garneton, Kitwe, hosted a “Meet the Bishop” fundraising luncheon, aimed at raising funds for the renovation of the church hall and the priest’s house. Though the Bishop of Ndola Diocese, Rt. Rev. Dr. Benjamin Phiri JCD, was unable to attend due to unforeseen circumstances, the event was graced by the Vicar General, Very Rev. Fr. Lewis Mutachila, who stood in his place. Fr. Mutachila was warmly welcomed by the parish priest, Fr. Mathews Musonda, along with other clergy members.
The event began with Mass, where the Vicar General delivered a poignant homily. He preached on the importance of giving not from abundance but from the little one has, drawing parallels to the biblical story of the widow who gave her last two coins. In his message, he urged the congregation to be mindful of the hardships faced by their families and neighbors, to be diligent in their work, and to maintain humility and faith, as only God knows the future of each person. Following the Mass, the fundraising luncheon commenced at Radio Ichengelo Gardens, hosted by the charismatic DJ Flappa J.
In his speech, Fr. Mutachila commended the parish for their efforts and encouraged them to continue striving towards the vision of the Ndola Diocese to be a self-sustaining church. The luncheon was a success, filled with beautiful music and entertainment, embodying the spirit of unity and generosity. The event not only raised funds for the needed renovations but also strengthened the bonds within the community, showcasing the resilience and faith of the parishioners. This successful fundraiser was a testament to the power of collective effort and divine providence in challenging times.
