Epiphany Sunday
On Sunday, January 5, 2025, the Feast of the Epiphany was celebrated with great joy at the Cathedral of Christ the King. This feast commemorates the visit of the Magi to the infant Jesus, symbolizing Christ’s revelation to the Gentiles. Traditionally observed on January 6, the feast is celebrated on the closest Sunday in many parishes, marking the manifestation of Jesus to the world. The Mass was celebrated by the Archbishop Dr. Benjamin Phiri JCD. It began with a colorful presentation by the Holy Childhood on the feast of Epiphany at the beginning of Mass. It was made special by the children’s choir, who sang beautifully. The Holy Childhood also took the first and second readings. During his homily, the Archbishop delivered a powerful message, urging parents and guardians to take serious care of the children entrusted to their care. He referenced Scripture, specifically Matthew 18:10, which states, “See that you do not despise one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven.” The Archbishop condemned various forms of child abuse that occur in homes, emphasizing that such actions would lead to disastrous consequences, regardless of one’s commitment to attending church The Archbishop also emphasized the importance of children respecting and honoring their parents, citing Ephesians 6:1-3, “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Honor your father and mother… that it may go well with you.” He reminded the congregation that no matter how advanced technology becomes, children can never surpass the wisdom of their parents. The mass ended joyful with the children giving a vote of thanks to the Archbishop and church announcements for the week. Below are a few highlights.
